Reflection Paper

At the end of the semester, each student will write a short paper (1000 words). This is designed to help you review and reflect on what you have learned as part of this course. As part of this exercise, you’ll write a narrative which integrates the examples, readings, concepts and research you have encountered/performed. You’ll also be exepected to do some additional independent readings, research and analysis to prepare the paper.

Learning Objective

As part of the exercise, students will:

• reflect on the role of art and creative practice in the production/creation of digital media;
• critically review precedent projects, the artists and art history behind today’s media, and the concepts and theories behind arts-based media;
• articulate of the history and domain of new media and tech-art explorations
• conduct independent research and exploration to help describe the domains and value of techology-arts and arts-based multimedia.

Prompt

Reflecting on your experiences in this course, the works introduced in-class, and the assigned texts, respond to the following prompt with a 1,000 word statement.

How has your perspective on the value of art in digital media changed and why?

Consider:

• What have you learned about media production/composition through this course?
• In what ways, have you developed as producer of (digital) media?
• What did you learn that surprised you?
• What challenged you most and how did you meet the challenge?
• What new experiences or perspectives impacted/changed your thinking or the trajectory of your development?
• What has changed about your perspective on the role (and value) of art and design in digital media from the beginning to the end of the course?

Expectations:

The reflection will include references:

• to specific artists and works that support your arguement;
• to concepts, theories and methods on media production; and
• that go beyond those directly introduced in class.

Optional: Personal Reflection

You are also invited to include short personal reflection. This is an opportunity to highlight things we may not have seen, work or effort you might have undertaken, or challenges you might have faced/overcome i.e. tell us things that might have gone unnoticed but that might influence your grade!

In no more than 300 words, reflect on your personal development and collaborations as part of this course.

Be honest in your self-assessment and motivate your answer based on the outcomes you prepared for the class. Describe your work and role on projects, especially the final assignment!

Formatting and Submitting your work:

• Include your name and andrew ID in the PDF document in the header

• Your paper should be single spaced, 12 font and have 1 inch margins.

• You can use hyperlinks and references.

• You’re encouraged to add images and supporting illustrations.

• Please please please use a unique and identifiable name e.g. lastname_firstname_finalreport.pdf

• Your final paper should be in PDF format and emailed to the instructor on or before the due date.
